Description
Here are the instructions for transferring the package of bees into a hive:
UPON YOUR ARRIVAL
Place the transport box in the shade and let the bee package rest for a while.
THE TRANSFER OF THE PACKAGE OF BEES TO ITS FINAL HIVE
Place your beehive in its final location.
1. Prepare the hive into which the package will be transferred. Leave only 5 frames in the super, all clustered towards the right or the left.
2. Position the box of the bee package next to the open hive, and if the bees are not clustered well, lightly spray the bees with water through the mesh.
3. Open the lid. Remove the piece of cloth to which the queen's cage is attached. Remove next the cap that blocks access to the candy.
4. Position the queen between the two frames which are closest to the center of the hive.
4. Gently shake a few bees towards the queen, and Place the bee packet box in the empty space in the hive. The bees will slowly leave the box to go towards the queen.
5. Feed the colony with 3 to 4 liters of 2:1 syrup, in a Boardman-type inlet feeder, Or a nurturing environment.
6. Reduce the hive entrance to limit drafts, while leaving space for the bees to come and go. If there are several colonies in the apiary, it is best to Leave the bee packages for two days in a cool (8 to 14°C) and dark room before placing them in the apiary to prevent dispersal. If this is not possible, the bee packages must be transferred to the hive at dusk, with a minimum space of one meter between hives, and arranged so that the exits are oriented in certain directions different.
7. After 8 days, open the hive and check if the queen has been accepted and is laying eggs. Remove the queen cage if it is empty, or open it, allowing the queen to leave from the bottom of the hive, being careful not to let her fly away. Also remove the bee package (which should be empty) and position the frames so that the brood chamber has its usual 10 frames.
8. Install a protein patty on top of the frames and close the hive.
9. After another week, check the queens that haven't yet laid eggs before checking if the queen is laying. If you don't find any eggs, try to find small larvae. If you find some, it's a sign that the queen is laying well. If you find neither eggs nor larvae, you must act quickly and introduce a frame from another hive with fresh brood (eggs and small larvae), and a new queen.
