How to use

General principle: it is put on in spring and autumn, and removed in summer and winter.

However, it all comes down to judgment.

In winter, when temperatures are cold, the entrance reducer can be completely removed. This allows the bees to remove dead bees from the hive. It is crucial to prevent any obstruction of the entrance, which would create condensation inside the hive.

Spring is arriving, the bees are starting to make cleansing flights, so it's time to put the entrance reducer back in its smallest position. The queen will increase her egg-laying, and the brood will need all the warmth possible. When temperatures rise, switch to the largest entrance.

In summer, it's hot, the bees happily forage for nectar, and there's a lot of activity. The entrance reducer can be completely removed.

In the fall, as soon as you remove the honey and set up the feeder, put the entrance reducer with the smaller opening in place. This significantly reduces robbing and provides increased protection against mice looking for a nest! Leave it like this until mid-December or when you feel winter is well and truly upon us. By then, the mice will have already found another home.
